Live Courses
Students meet live with the teacher and a group of students. The benefits of live courses are that students have interaction with a teacher and peers in a community. Longer (multi-day, semester, and subscription) courses offer them the ability to develop relationships with their teacher and peers while studying content that builds on previous learning such as longer-range essays, projects, and assignments with teacher feedback.
Live courses can be a:
one-time course (they only meet one time)
multi-day course (they meet multiple times over a period of days or weeks)
semester course (they meet for an entire semester on regularly scheduled days)
subscription course (they meet on a regular basis, based on the subscription terms. For example, they may meet once per week, every other week, or three times per week. Payment is made per subscription terms, and you are not charged for weeks you don’t meet).
Self-Paced Courses
Students move through the course at their own pace, and they have a teacher guiding them and interacting with them, offering feedback, and grading their work. The course includes video lessons, interactive activities, assignments, and quizzes, which have no due date. As this is a self-paced course, there are no live classes. The benefits of self-paced courses are that they are less expensive and very flexible, while still having interaction with a teacher.
Self-Paced Courses can be:
multi-day (students have multiple days or weeks of content such as a 5-week essay curriculum or a 30-week literature curriculum.
subscription (students subscribe weekly or monthly, which helps reduce the cost of the course and offers the ability to take a short-term camp or yearlong study).
Online Curriculum
Students have access to a classroom and may go through the curriculum at their own pace. As this is a curriculum, there are no live classes and no interaction with a teacher. The benefits of the online curriculum are that it’s a less expensive way to still go through an excellent curriculum with videos, interactive material, and quizzes. For younger students, parents are able to direct them through the learning; for older students, they can often navigate the curriculum on their own.
Think of the online curriculum as an interactive, video-based, online book!
Online curriculum can be a:
MicroLesson (a super quick lesson on one skill or concept, usually 1-3 minutes)
multi-week (students have multiple weeks of content such as a 5-week essay curriculum or a 30-week literature curriculum)
subscription to the curriculum (students subscribe weekly or monthly, which helps reduce the cost of the curriculum and can be used as a short-term camp or a yearlong study.)
