Description

Organize your Homework, Sports, Etra-Curriculars, and Life!

As students work through middle school and high school, we want them to be independent and successful in managing their lives: how they plan and spend their time, keep track of homework, organize long-term school projects, complete chores and other family responsibilities, and participate in sports and extra-curricular activities without losing their minds. It’s a lot to manage!

A Weekly Check-In

This class, which is a weekly check-in, will be the accountability and support students need as they manage their busy schedules. Students receive individual support in planning their time while learning how to eventually do all of this independently. For example, if students have a science project to complete, Mrs. Lemons will teach them to read all the instructions, look at due dates, and how to use their calendar or planner to schedule their science work around their sports schedule and other homework assignments. In each class, the instructor asks students to look ahead at their weekly calendar (paper, ical, or Google calendar). Then they update their weekly agenda that has a daily checklist of things to do. When they’re done with that, they check their grades and deal with anything that may be wrong. Maybe they need to email the teacher, or finish a missing assignment, etc. When this is complete, we discuss an aspect of intentional living. Some weeks we will talk about how their living spaces are organized and they’ll plan to organize their closet, bathroom, or desk. Some weeks we will talk about important people in their lives and how to make intentional time for those relationships. In other weeks, we will talk about habits and how to avoid bad habits like procrastination and develop better habits. We talk about habit-bundling to get things done we don’t like to do. We accomplish a lot in a short period of time. The chatbox is used extensively, so the instructor can have conversations with multiple students at the same time.

As a weekly subscription class, students will also get to know each other and will encourage one another to follow through on the plan they create. We will celebrate each other’s successes and encourage and support each other when mistakes and even failures happen.
